Thanks for Asking

We’ve set this page up as the sole source for all information regarding how best to do business with us, and how we operate from a logistical perspective. If you don’t find the answer to your specific question or have reservations about something-- please contact us. We know it sounds old hat; but your complete satisfaction is indeed our primary goal.

How do we place orders?

We trust you’ll find we’ve made it as easy as possible to acquire our products. We have a online store where you can place orders directly from this web site. However, if you experience difficulty, or prefer not to utilize PayPal for your shopping, we have an old fashioned order form (in a pdf format) which you can print, fill out, and mail in with your check. And we would certainly enjoy receiving a phone call from you. We hope this helps.

How do we pay you?FAQ 01

We accept credit card payments only through PayPal.

All transactions and quotations are made in US currency. Please note that PayPal has currency conversion capabilities to assist our foreign customers.

We also accept business or personal checks as well as money orders. The check should be made payable to Tartans of Maine and will have to clear our bank before your purchase is shipped.

Custom orders require a deposit of at least 50% of the quoted cost with the order. The balance is due before the completed item/items are shipped.

How soon will my item be shipped?

Orders for our standard items - such as neckties, scarves, and doggie bandanas - in small mixed-lot quantities (up to nine) are typically shipped within two to three business days of payment resolution.

Larger lots and custom work will typically require more time. We need to know what you want in order to determine the time frame for shipment.

What are the Shipping & Handling costs; and how are items shipped?

Orders totaling from $0 to $99 are shipped for just $6. And shipping is free on all orders over $100.

Shipping costs for foreign orders will be calculated on an individual basis.

All orders are shipped via USPS Priority Mail.

Do you charge sales tax?

Yes, but only on those shipments within the State of Maine. The rate is currently 5%, and is automatically factored into orders processed by PayPal.

How do I place a custom order?

The best way is to begin with a phone call. If we don’t pick up, please leave a message (with your call back number, of course) and we’ll ring you up as soon as we can. You can also contact us via e-mail with your phone number and the best time to reach you. We will be glad to call you back. We believe in the power of conversation.

Payment for a custom order can be made through the specific arrangements we will discuss with you. One of those methods can be via PayPal on this special page established for this specific purpose.

Do you make products out of other tartans?

Possibly. Please contact us for the availability of your particular pattern. Advance payment for your product would be required before we place the order for your fabric.

I have fabric. Will you make an item from it for me?

Possibly. But, the fabric must be of sufficient amount and suitable quality to create the item. In these circumstances a phone conversation is a must, so we can work out the logistical details.

How do I clean my tartan item?

Being 100% wool, it should be dry cleaned.

However, if your doggie bandana develops a little “character” it can be hand washed in cold water using mild soap. A light touchup with an iron is another good idea. We don’t recommend this washing method for our other products.

Do you offer a guarantee?

You bet! Our goal is to deliver a quality product to a thoroughly satisfied customer. If that doesn’t describe you - please contact us. We’ll work it out with your best interest at heart.

Do you make kilts?

Not at this time, although we are contemplating the production requirements. Please understand that kilts are
fabric and labor intensive, as well as being custom tailored for the individual wearer. If we’re going to do it,
we’re going to do it right.

Thanks! Allan & Sarah.
