Thanks for Asking
We’ve set this page up as the sole source for all information regarding how best to do business with us, and how we operate from a logistical perspective. If you don’t find the answer to your specific question or have reservations about something-- please contact us. We know it sounds old hat; but your complete satisfaction is indeed our primary goal.
How do we place orders?
You can place orders directly from our store pages using your credit card. For those not wishing to make credit cards purchases, we gladly accept personal checks, money orders or cash. Drop us a note that includes payment telling us your needs and we will ship via USPS using priority mail. Call us if you have any questions or requests. We are always willing to work with our friends to meet special needs.
How do we pay you?
We accept credit card payments only through PayPal.
All transactions and quotations are made in US currency. Please note that PayPal has currency conversion capabilities to assist our foreign customers.
We also accept business or personal checks as well as money orders. The check should be made payable to Tartans of Maine and will have to clear our bank before your purchase is shipped.
Custom orders require a deposit of at least 50% of the quoted cost with the order. The balance is due before the completed item/items are shipped.
How soon will my item be shipped?
Orders for our standard items - such as neckties, scarves, and doggie bandanas - in small mixed-lot quantities (up to nine) are typically shipped within two to three business days of payment resolution.
Larger lots and custom work will typically require more time. We need to know what you want in order to determine the time frame for shipment.
What are the Shipping & Handling costs; and how are items shipped?
All domestic orders, regardless of total amount have a shipping cost of $6.
Shipping costs for foreign orders will be calculated on an individual basis.
All orders are shipped via USPS Priority Mail.
Do you charge sales tax?
Yes, but only on those shipments within the State of Maine. The rate is currently 5%, and is automatically factored into orders processed by PayPal.
How do I place a custom order?
The best way is to begin with a phone call. If we don’t pick up, please leave a message (with your call back number, of course) and we’ll ring you up as soon as we can. You can also contact us via e-mail with your phone number and the best time to reach you. We will be glad to call you back. We believe in the power of conversation. Payment for a custom order can be made through the specific arrangements we will discuss with you.
Do you sell fabric?
Sadly, not at this time. Our supplier informs us that because of increased demands for custom woven tartans, our resupply time has increased significantly. For the foreseeable future we are forced to keep all of our fabric inventory to meet our production needs. We have a limited supply of kilt weight (16oz.) material for retail sale. Please check stocks before ordering.
Do you make products out of other tartans?
No. We specialize in the Maine State Tartan©. But if you’re having trouble locating fabric or products made from a different tartan and wish to consult with us, we may be able to direct you to other reliable sources.
I have fabric. Will you make an item from it for me?
Possibly. But, the fabric must be of sufficient amount and suitable quality to create the item. In these circumstances a phone conversation is a must, so we can work out the logistical details.
How do I clean my tartan item?
Being 100% wool, your Maine State Tartan© items will look freshest and last longest if they are dry-cleaned. However, wool is one of the most durable fabrics known to man. Given minimal care and respect, Maine State Tartan© woolens will outlast their wearer.
Do you offer a guarantee?
You bet! Our goal is to deliver a quality product to a thoroughly satisfied customer. If that doesn’t describe you - please contact us. We’ll work it out with your best interest at heart.
How can I get a kilt made from Maine State Tartan©?
Contact us directly to discuss your needs. We will put you in touch with a reputable kilt maker and supply fabric in accordance with their directions. Depending upon our inventories, kilt weight fabric may require a special order from Scotland.
Thanks! Allan & Sarah.
